Education quality mark to improve delivery of skills

The Learning and Skills Council (LSC) is in negotiations with the CBI to provide a quality mark for further education providers to prove they are up to scratch.

Last week, the CBI’s annual employment survey showed that employers were disappointed with the service they get from colleges and other public training bodies and are increasingly turning to private providers.

David Way, director of skills at the LSC, said while there were many good colleges, others needed to raise their game.

“We need to be able to identify which colleges are serious about working with employers, and employers need to know which they are,” he told Personnel Today.

In a separate development, the LSC last week announced it is to cut 1,300 jobs as part of a £40m cost savings programme.
