E-learning provider Brightwave and consultancy Accenture have teamed up to deliver two e-learning programmes to BT on health and safety and working in confined spaces.
More than 24,000 BT employees have completed the Be Safe Not Sorry health and safety course, and nearly 12,000 have successfully passed the Confined Spaces course.
“We have seen a very low failure rate on the confined spaces course, which we think reflects its successful launch,” said Steve Lisney, major projects delivery manager for BT.
“What’s even more encouraging, is that Accenture usually gets lots of calls to the help desk when a course is launched, but this time it was completely different. They said this is one of the best launches they have seen in the past four years.”
The confined spaces course lasts 40 minutes. It features an animated employee called Stan, who demonstrates how to safely enter restricted spaces such as manholes, tunnels and trenches, and raises awareness of potential hazards.

The health and safety course is approximately an hour long, and has been designed to influence behaviours rather than teach rules and policies.
