Working holidays in UK cut to 12 months
The government has cut the length of time individuals are allowed to spend in the UK under the Working Holidaymaker scheme. People will now be able to spend 12 months of a two-year stay in employment. The UK will also refuse access to citizens from countries that do not co-operate in accepting people who are not entitled to stay in the UK.

Most managers ignorant of consultation directive
Almost two-thirds of managers know almost nothing about the Information and Consultation Directive, a poll has revealed. Just 15% of employers had a working knowledge of the rules, which come into force next month. The survey by consultancy Getfeedback also found that 58% of firms want to do more than merely comply.

Rutherford wins right to appeal to House of Lords
A landmark legal fight is set to continue after the House of Lords agreed to hear an appeal by John Rutherford and Samuel Bentley. The men are battling for more employment rights for older people. They initially won an Employment Tribunal, which would have extended the rights of thousands of older workers, but this was later overturned by an Employment Appeal Tribunal.
