Eleven of MG Rover’s overseas employees are still waiting to return to the UK – more than two weeks after the collapse of the company, it has emerged.
The staff, who were in China, India, South Africa, South Korea to buy components, say they are thousands of pounds out of pocket, with no return tickets and no UK homes to come back to.
Bal Dhaliwal, who has worked for Rover for 15 years and been based in India for the past 16 months, told BBC News: “The communication has been very, very poor and we’ve had to resort to using our personal e-mail addresses to communicate, as our business ones are void.
“I’ve had to switch off my Indian mobile because suppliers we set up deals with before the company collapsed have been calling me because they have not been paid.”

Dhaliwal added: “A lot of things such as schooling and medical costs which were promised as part of our ex-pat contract have not been paid. I am thousands of pounds out of pocket.”
On Thursday, Rover’s administrators said they would be helping all the workers to get home by the end of next week.
