Personnel TodayThe HR profession

Let the HR stars shine in 2005

by Personnel Today 22 Feb 2005
by Personnel Today 22 Feb 2005

This week, we are launching the Personnel Today Awards 2005 with a mission to showcase the best HR talent in the UK.

We’re looking for innovators in HR – the teams making a big difference in organisations of all sizes and in all sectors across the UK. We want to honour those teams making an impact with their people policies and delivering great bottom-line business benefits.

If your HR department has spearheaded an innovative project, driven down costs, been courageous in implementing change or has achieved great results in the past 18 months, then Personnel Today wants to hear about it.

The search is on to find the best HR pioneers for the 2005 Personnel Today Awards and this year there are new opportunities to become a finalist. And for the first time, we have introduced a Lifetime Achievement Award to recognise the outstanding contribution an individual has made to the HR profession during their career. We have also introduced a new category for rewarding excellence in outsourcing and shared services.

With a total of 12 main categories in this year’s line-up, 48 teams will be spotlighted in Personnel Today and on Personneltoday.com as well as appearing on the dedicated awards website, www.personneltodayawards.com

If you are keen to reward your department’s initiatives, think about what you have done, how you have tackled it and what the benefits have been for the organisation as a whole. The key is to demonstrate to the judges that you have understood organisational goals and have evidence to support your achievements.

After reading the category descriptions, entrants must submit no more than 1,000 words explaining what a team has done and why, and what positive outcomes it has brought to the organisation. There will be independent judges in each category and all entries will be measured against the following five criteria:

  • Innovation – what was different, new, and unique about your actions?
  • Teamwork – who was involved, how did they pull together, what made the team successful?
  • Leadership – who led the project and what were the hallmarks of their leadership?
  • Effective use of resources – what resources were available and how were they maximised?
  • HR’s contribution to the business – what were the positive outcomes, how can you prove HR’s effectiveness?

The judges will assess your written entries plus supporting material and then choose four of the best teams from each category. These teams will then be profiled in the magazine and on our websites. All shortlisted teams will be invited to a dazzling awards dinner at Grosvenor House, Park Lane, London on 24 November, where the winners will be unveiled. Last year, there were 1,200 guests and the event was a sell-out weeks before the big night arrived.

Award entries are free, and simply by making an effort, you could give your team and organisation the recognition they deserve. Previous winners have included New Look, Motorola, Canon Europe and Merseyside Fire Service.

To make a nomination for the Lifetime Achievement Award, simply submit a 200 word entry detailing why this person deserves to win.

The deadline for award entries is Friday 10 June.
