HR resources

by Personnel Today 23 Nov 2004

Personnel Today’s management resources series is set to grow with the launch of the new One-Stop Guide to Employer Branding.

The guide, which is due to be released at the end of this month, gives a practical insight into all areas of employer branding – from understanding the branding process and learning how to create a branding framework to communicating a company’s values effectively, it offers valuable, often complex information, presented in plain English.

Communicating the right message to both your customers and your staff is hard to get right. And, according to the guide’s author, Kay Thorne, ensuring that your people brand matches your marketing brand can be vital to a company’s success.

Thorne, founder of the Inspiration Network as well as a well-known coach, consultant and author, states that employer branding is “the glue that holds all the different components of the organisation together”. This, she says, ensures employee and customer loyalty, which in turn leads to business growth.

Key chapters in the guide include:

– Employer branding – what it is and why it matters

– The process

– Creating a framework for branding your organisation

– Developing your people

– How to communicate the employer brand message internally

– Using employer branding to gain competitive advantage

– What is the future for employer branding?

– Putting employer branding into practice – case studies

Look out for more information on HR Resources over the next few weeks to find out how to order your copy of this new guide.

– Celebrating the best in HR, next week Personnel Today will be announcing the winners of the Personnel Today Awards 2004, which take place this Thursday. To mark the occasion we are publishing a brochure listing all the winners and showcasing their achievements. This will be a chance to have a look at the highest achievers in HR. Look out for the brochure with next week’s Personnel Today.

– Over-indulgence is an accepted practice during the party season, but what happens when drinking becomes a problem? The December issue of Occupational Health looks at the worrying incidence of alcohol abuse in the workplace, and offers tools to help HR deal with this growing problem. We also take a close look at the special relationship between the occupational health and HR departments.

– How well have you learned 2004’s employment law lessons? In December, Employer’s Law offers its second annual employment law quiz. Meanwhile, see November’s issue for an industry focus on the health service. We look at the logistical headache being faced by health chiefs as new requirements come into play challenging the service’s core way of working. This issue also asks how other European countries are already implementing forthcoming anti-age discrimination law in the workplace.

– An increasing number of organisations are recognising the value of adopting a more strategic approach to reward management. Too often managers assess an organisational problem to be about pay alone. But all elements of reward are needed to create a productive and engaged workforce. Personnel Today’s new One-stop Guide to Managing Reward gives practical solutions to developing the right plan for an organisation.

From job evaluation and grading to benefit schemes and pensions, this guide offers managers everything they need to know to design and implement an effective reward strategy. The guide is written by Mark Childs, director of Outset, vice-president (reward) for the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD), and developer of the CIPD’s Advanced Certificate in Reward Management.
