Vauxhall workers likely to avoid the chop as GM modifies European workforce

Vauxhall workers in the UK are likely to escape the axe as parent company General Motors (GM) cuts 12,000 jobs across Europe.

The US parent company has not given a precise breakdown of the lay-offs, but has said that most of the redundancies will come at its plants in Germany. The reductions are part of a plan to cut costs by more than £340m.

Vauxhall employs around 5,000 workers at its plant in Ellesmere Port while GM has more than 2,000 employees producing vans in Luton.
