Supermarket
chain Safeway has signed a national agreement with a specialist recruitment
organisation to open up more employment opportunities for the disabled.
Safeway
has been looking at its business for the past 18 months see how it can increase
the opportunities for disabled staff.
By
formally working with Remploy, it now hopes to increase the levels of
recruitment and retention of disabled workers across all its stores.
Remploy,
which helps disabled staff enter the jobs market, will now be notified of any
vacancies at Safeway so candidates will be able to access them directly over
the internet.

Nicola
Instone, HR director for stores at Safeway said: “This agreement represents a
huge step forward in reaffirming a policy that is already inherent in our
culture and will further increase the number of disabled people we employ. It
will enable us to have access to a broader pool of potential employees with a
range of skills thereby creating a more diverse workforce.”
