A
National College for School Leadership has been opened to provide career
opportunities for teachers who are or who wish to become headteachers.
The
Government said it plans to make teaching a more modern and professional career
and is aiming to improve standards.
In
a speech to the National College for School Leadership, Prime Minister Tony
Blair said: "Leadership is something learned. Good schools need good
heads. If we want to get the school system right in Britain we need the right
leadership; it’s absolutely critical. And that leadership is something that
comes in part from natural ability, but it is also something learnt."
The
purpose-built college cost £28m to set up at Nottingham University.
It
takes over the running of three national training programmes from the
Department for Education:

The National Professional Qualification for Headship
•
The Leadership Programme for Serving Heads
