Salmon leaps at ssda role

Margaret Salmon has been appointed as the first chair of the new Sector
Skills Development Agency. Salmon is currently a non-executive director with
Kingfisher plc and a director of the University for Industry. She is a former
chief executive officer of BBC Resources and group personnel director of the
Burton Group. Salmon’s appointment took effect on 14 February and will run for
a period of three years.

NVQ Tool Box

Centres running or thinking about running NVQs can benefit from a new
information package.

The Oxford Cambridge and RSA Examinations NVQ Toolbox is a set of
information and guidelines to help with the administration process in carrying
out a systems audits, checklists for assessments and verification, and forms
that rationalise procedures. It promises to let centres know what requirements
they have to meet.   www.ocr.org.uk

Call-handling NVQ

Regency Insurance Group is said to be one of the first companies in the
country to take up the new NVQ in ‘call-handling’. Training director Tina
Mozier said the course has been adapted to make it unique to the company and
its requirements – staff work parallel to each other and complete the modules
together over a year.

HTF shifts focus

New head of the Training and Awards Division of the Hospitality Training
Foundation is Richard Finan, formerly a management consultant and trainer for
Huthwaite International. He will develop the division’s two brands, Stonebow,
the management development and qualifications arm, and NVQ admin-istrator, the
Hospitality Awarding Body.  www.htf.org.uk

Impact OVER the Channel

Lake District-based Impact Development Training Group has opened an office
in Paris, France as part of a concerted expansion plan through Europe. It hopes
to persuade French companies to escape the classroom for Impact’s experiential
methods.
