Gender policy success suffers from lack of supporting data

More
than three-quarters of employers are operating flexible working policies to
encourage women into the workplace but few monitor the impact of these
policies, according to a survey by Opportunity Now.

Gender
Equality In The Work- place, reveals that 78 per cent of employers offer
flexible working programmes and 36 per cent provide teleworking and home-based
working schemes.

But
few employers measure the take-up of schemes that support gender equality. Only
56 per cent of private-sector and 67 per cent of public-sector employers
provide data for the take-up of flexible working practices among female staff.
And only a third of the 181 employers surveyed consult staff about gender
equality issues.

Commenting
on the report, Tyrone Jones, equal opportunities adviser for Halifax bank,
said, "In the Halifax, we hold a series of glass-ceiling forums run by
senior women who discuss barriers to progression. We want to improve female
representation across the workforce and providing flexible working helps us do
this."
