Employers need longer-term strategies for employee training, claimed the chief executive of the new Learning and Skills Development Agency.
Speaking at a training conference in London yesterday, John Harwood called on employers to commit to increasing employees skills.
He said, “We all need to change attitudes in this country concerning learning.”
He pointed to the 1997 National Adult Survey, which stated that two of the most common reasons why people did not go on to further education was because they were not interested in learning and did not need to learn for their jobs.
Harwood said, “Employers complain about the expense of recruiting trained staff so they should improve their in-house training schemes.”
