Training outsourcing set to grow

by John Charlton 17 Jul 2007
by John Charlton 17 Jul 2007

Many large organisations may offload their training administration function to outside specialists, claimed managed learning services provider KnowledgePool.

It said a recent survey it undertook â€“ based on questionnaires and phone interviews â€“ of 39 large UK organisations in the private and public sectors, found that one in three “will consider” outsourcing their training admin functions in the next two years. But no more than 10% of those surveyed said they would outsource other training and learning and developmentactivities, such as project management and training needs analysis.

Meanwhile, US company TrainingOutsourcing.com has listed what it claims are the top 20 companies that specialise in the outsourcing of training and learning and development. The one UK company listed is KnowledgePool, though US-based Accenture Learning, which is the UK’s biggest provider of outsourced training services, is also listed.

IBM Learning Solutions, which operates in the UK, is also in the top 20.

TrainingOutsourcing.comsaid more than 200 training outsourcing specialists were judged against 13 criteria. These included: the ability to deliver multiple training services recognition as a leading provider of outsourcing revenue generated from the provision of outsourcing services and demonstrating the ability to align training services with clients’ business needs.

Some 30% of training outsourcers’ revenue comes from training delivery, said TrainingOutsourcing.com, with 27% derived from content development and 15% from admin services.

“Our top 20 companies reported revenue growth of 32% from learning services from 2005 to 2006 and have projected an additional 30% increase for 2007,” said TrainingOutsourcing.com chief executive Doug Harward.
