National Stress Awareness Day: Free 10-page guide

by Personnel Today 7 Nov 2007
by Personnel Today 7 Nov 2007

In support of National Stress Awareness Day on 7 November, Inner Physique, a stress management solution provider, is giving away a free, 10 page guide to managing work-related stress to any organisation who would like a copy.

National Stress Awareness Day (NSAD) is organised by the International Stress Management Association UK (ISMAUK) – a registered charity whose aim is to advance the education of the public in the field of biological stress. Funded by a wide range of sources from qualified stress management practitioners registered with ISMAUK, right through to Government funded bodies such as the Health and Safety Executive, the charity also works with other outside organisations that have an interest in stress and stress reduction.

NSAD aims to help people by highlighting the many coping strategies and sources of help available to people who want to reduce the harmful effects of stress in their lives.

Now in its 9th year, NSAD is a firm fixture in the UK calendar on the first Wednesday of November. Stress can be brought on by many things and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) cite for example that work-related stress accounts for over a third of all new incidences of ill health and that each case of stress-related ill health leads to an average of 30.9 working days lost.  More details can be found at the NSAD web site (http://www.nsad.org.uk/aboutNSAD.aspx).

Inner Physique’s ten page guide to managing stress takes a high level look at:

ü       What is work-related stress and why is it important?

ü       Making sense of the HSE best practice guidelines

ü       Approaches to auditing stress

ü       Employer/employee partnerships for stress management

Managing Director of Inner Physique, Richard Adams, says, “We often come across organisations that have started out on the path of implementing a stress management initiative but have found it difficult to deliver on promises made at the outset of the project.  The purpose of this ten page guide is to assist organisations to identify each of the core components that we believe should be present in a well rounded, proactive stress management/employee wellbeing initiative and implement a solution that follows the HSE’s best practice guidelines.
