British Airways faces new strike threat as cabin crew urged to reject offer

British Airways (BA) could face renewed strikes as cabin crew are encouraged to reject the latest offer by the airline.

Talks between BA and Unite union have failed to reach an agreement and the union will now ballot its 12,000 cabin crew members on an undisclosed offer made by the airline.

But Unite warned it would “strongly recommend” that its members reject BA’s offer.

If the deal is rejected, strikes by cabin crew could be resumed, but Unite said, owing to the disruption caused by the volcanic ash last week, it would not announce strike dates “at this stage”.

BA has refused to reveal details of its latest offer, the BBC has reported.

The airline said the offer put to Unite was “fair” and it was “extremely disappointed” that the union was “urging its members to reject our latest offer and apparently preparing for a further strike shortly after the general election campaign”.
