Aberdeen City Council successfully introduce on-line performance review through Bowland Solutions

by Personnel Today 20 May 2008
by Personnel Today 20 May 2008

Following a series of successful projects with local government bodies in Southampton, Eastleigh and Peterborough, Bowland Solutions have now created a tailored web-based Performance Review system for Aberdeen City Council.

The system also incorporates the ability to conduct 360 degree feedback as part of the process.

Working from their own established competency framework, individuals select the most relevant competencies to their role, and request feedback from their line manager, direct reports and peers; this is conducted on-line and  a report generated with the results.

This feedback feeds into their performance appraisal, where they also complete a self-evaluation form on-line, as does their supervisor or line manager.

From the performance appraisal session, a Personal Development Plan is drawn up and stored alongside their appraisal forms and 360 degree feedback, thereby providing a complete record of their performance and development needs.

The whole process is easily administered through the system, from sending invites asking for feedback, monitoring progress, sending reminders and releasing reports for viewing.

Initially the system will support senior management appraisals across the council, and may then be rolled out further within the organisation.

John Rice, Sales & Marketing Director of Bowland Solutions, comments “It is becoming more common for us to be integrating the performance review process with 360 degree feedback; it rightly brings together the need to evaluate performance whilst providing feedback that will help the individual develop themselves in the right way.”
