Adair Turner to take over chair of the Economic and Social Research Council

Lord Adair Turner has been appointed the new chair of the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

The ESRC is one of the UK’s leading publicly-funded economic and social research organisation. It provides high-quality research on issues of importance to business, the public sector and government.

Turner headed up the CBI and was chair of the Low Pay Commission from 2002-06.

He chaired the Pensions Commission until August 2006 and produced a report into the future of the UK’s pension system.

He said: “The council plays a major role in supporting vibrant and high-quality economic and social science in the UK, which is vital to our understanding of the challenges facing society and business and to sound public policy decisions.”
