Asda staff to pocket share of £21m bonus

by Gareth Vorster 14 Feb 2008

Supermarket giant Asda’s 127,000 employees will share a record £21m bonus this month.

Employees with more than six months’ service working in Asda’s 352 stores and 24 depots across the UK, will each receive an extra £245 in their pay packets.

More than 45,000 employees from 118 stores and 21 depots will pocket a full bonus entitlement, with full-time staff in stores that hit the company’s “super bonus” threshold receiving a payout of up to £420 each.

The annual performance-related bonus scheme was first introduced in 2000 after Asda was taken over by US-based Wal-Mart.

Andy Bond, chief executive at Asda, said: “Once again it’s the hard work and enthusiasm of our colleagues that has made the business such a success this year. It’s only fair that we share the rewards with [those] who helped make it happen.”
