The
UK’s largest insurer is following the example of HSBC bank and setting up a
call centre and processing unit in India, says The Independent newspaper.
Aviva,
which operates as Norwich Union in the UK, is said to be considering a move to
the subcontinent where running costs can be up to 40 per cent cheaper.
The
newspaper report claimed that Aviva’s proposed move could lead to job losses in
the UK, although it would try and keep them to a minimum by transferring staff
to other areas of the business.

The
firm currently employs around 30,000 staff in the UK and the new call centre in
India could start with 1,000 employees.
