Business can learn lessons from football

As the World Cup reaches the knockout stages, the debate on what makes a good team has reached fever pitch. And there is a lot HR managers can learn from applying football analogies to the business world.

That is the view of the experts Personnel Today spoke to for our in-depth focus on talent management this week.

As Cary Cooper, professor of organisational psychology and health at Lancaster University, pointed out:

“Football managers love the team, they love what they are doing and they make everyone believe they are doing something important. Corporate managers can be driven, but they are less passionate.”
