Carlisle Council backtracks over threatening pay cut e-mail

A confidential e-mail that threatened to discipline employees at Carlisle City Council who complained about having their pay levels cut has been withdrawn, according to a report in the Cumberland News.

Back in July, the newspaper reported that managers at the council were being told to warn staff against lodging grievances about a job-evaluation exercise. A move that trade unions condemned.

However, according to the latest report, the deputy leader at the council, John Mallinson, has told councillors that the advice in the e-mail had been withdrawn.
