At least 90,000 people die a year in the UK from smoking-related diseases,
compared with 5,000 who die on the roads.
This shocking statistic comes from How to Stop Smoking and Stay Stopped,
published by BBC Worldwide to coincide with the BBC’s Kick the Habit campaign
and National No Smoking Day on 8 March.
The book looks at how to motivate smokers to give up and sets out case
studies of how smokers have beaten their addition.
According to campaign organisers of the seventeenth national No Smoking Day,
over a million smokers join in the day and an estimated 40,000 quit.
