EEF welcomes training pilot extension

EEF, the manufacturers’ organisation, has welcomed the announcement in today’s pre-budget statement that employer training pilots will be extended across the country.

However, it expressed concern as to whether companies would receive sufficient compensation for time taken off by employees for training.

Commenting on the move, Janet Berkman, EEF head of education and skills, said manufacturers would support the new National Employer Training Programme as long as it provided business-focused training schemes that will enhance productivity and competitiveness.

“Funding for level 3 as well as level 2 qualifications is a start, but Government must ensure that wage costs for time off continue to be compensated in the new scheme,” she said.
