Employee monitoring is not snooping system

Your news story “Royal London deploys staff snooping system” (Personneltoday.com, 19 January) is misleading.


The system is not used to snoop on employees. As a responsible employer, we firmly believe we must be able to check how our IT systems have been used, if there is reason to believe inappropriate or illegal actions may have taken place. The introduction of the new software was discussed with our employee consultative committee to ensure the purpose and benefits of our approach were clearly understood.


Rather than suggesting that the purpose of the software was to “snoop” on staff, I would have hoped that you might have seen this as a positive, collaborative and responsible approach, that will help ensure this important issue is dealt with effectively and ethically.
