The use of competencies – definitions of behaviours and skills that are essential for effective performance at work – is becoming commonplace, according to research by IRS.
A survey covering the employers of one in seven employees in the UK shows that, extrapolated across the economy, 7.8 million people work for employers that have introduced competencies.
Almost two-thirds of organisations now use competencies in their HR processes, and they are more likely to be used by larger employers, and those in public sector healthcare and financial services.
