Employers
are to be given EU guidelines on the maximum levels of exposure to
electro-magnetic waves staff should face.
The
new European guidelines focus on employees who work with power lines, and
mobile phone and radar antennae.
The
proposals have been agreed in principle by the EU Council of Ministers, and
will force companies to carry out risk assessments of the dangers to their
staff from radio, television and mobile phone masts.

The
stipulations, which should enable employers to pre-empt concerns about exposure
limits, are set out in an EU directive.
If
approved by the European Parliament, the directive, Safety and Health at Work:
Exposure of Workers to Electromagnetic Fields, will become law next year.
