Attempts
to target children as young as 12 for future careers in public service have met
with unprecedented success, according to the Employers’ Organisation for Local
Government (EO).
The
EO is marketing local government to children through Futureville, a free
CD-Rom, which offers young people insight into careers in the sector that will
suit their skills and ambitions.
Banner
adverts on children’s websites have resulted in would-be civil servants
ordering nearly 10,000 copies of the CD-Rom.

Martin
Stein, senior consultant, recruitment and careers at the EO, said that
Futureville proved that once children got beyond the negative image, they like
what they see in local government.
