The first national recruitment guide for gay and lesbian jobseekers has been launched by gay rights campaigners Stonewall.
It is targeted at the estimated 150,000 gay and lesbian students in the UK, reports The Guardian newspaper. Starting Out showcases 79 employers and offers practical advice on managing job interviews.
Stephen Frost, manager of Stonewall’s workplace programmes, said the guide encourages gay and lesbian jobseekers to be “out” if they want to be.
“By appearing in the guide, companies are not just reaching out to gay and lesbian people, but are sending a message to others as well,” he said.
