GPs
returning to the NHS will be given up to £10,000 as a ‘golden hello’, Health
Minister John Hutton has announced.
A
scheme started in November last year saw new GPs given up to £10,000 as an
incentive.
Now
the scheme is to be extended to include qualified doctors who are not currently
working in NHS general practice but decide to return.
The
incentive pays up to £5,000 to new GPs and those taking up posts on leaving the
GP retainer scheme, with up to an extra £5,000 if the post is in an area with a
shortage of doctors.
