A
workshop programme has been launched, designed to draw more young people into
IT.
Called
Go for IT, and developed by the sector’s training body e-skills UK, the drive
will see companies invite students into the workplace to see how the industry
works.
Computer
giant Dell has been running workshops at its UK headquarters in Bracknell, and
has committed to 10 Go for IT workshops over the next 12 months.
Pat
Nathan, vice-president, diversity at Dell, said she hopes the students will
consider a career in technology and will consider working for Dell.
Anne
Cantelo, project director at e-skills UK said many 13-year-olds see IT as geeky
and untrendy but she hopes the workshops can change that perception.
