Manufacturing
has suffered it’s largest slump for six months, with almost 6,000 jobs lost
during the first month of the year.
The
GMB union said the job losses were the worst since last August, with the north
and east of the country particularly hard hit.
Eastern
England was the hardest hit region with 1,722 job losses announced among 12
companies, two of which are relocating overseas.
Kevin
Curran, the GMB’s general secretary, said that unless the Government started to
work towards a solution entire communities would suffer.
