Line managers must have a greater say in whether HR professionals are improving their workplace, according to one of the UK’s leading HR directors.
Neil Roden, group HR director at Royal Bank of Scotland (RBS), said he was keen to engage more of the bank’s line managers to check on HR’s performance.
Speaking last week at an event hosted by HR consultancy Ceridian, Roden said meetings of focus groups could prove useful in making sure both HR and line managers were delivering what the other desired.

These focus groups would be run in addition to the employee opinion surveys RBS already carries, he said.
Roden added that the bank was eager to have more executives from the financial services sector joining the ranks of HR, but attracting top people was proving difficult.
