Manufacturing and services pay awards increase

Pay
rises in manufacturing and services have edged up slightly but not as much as
expected, according to latest CBI figures.

The
CBI Pay Databank survey showed that manufacturing pay awards averaged 2.7 per
cent in the second quarter of this year.

This
represents a 0.3 per cent increase for the first quarter of the year when
figures hit an all-time low for the period.

Service
sector pay increases averaged 3.6 per cent for the second quarter, edging up by
0.2 per cent, but down by 0.5 per cent from a year ago.
