There is a place for mental health nurses working within occupational
health, according to OH adviser Carol Bannister.
This was Bannister’s introduction to her session, ‘Working together to
promote mental health and work’, which she co-hosted with Sharon Horan,
director of OH nursing at Aon Health Solutions and chair of SOHN.
However, she said, there is often a belief both within and outside the
profession that only nurses with general nurse qualifications should be
admitted.

Contemporary OH practice shows there is an increasing need for competent
mental health advice within a workplace, said Bannister. "I believe mental
health nurses have useful skills, discipline and background to offer us in
OH," she added.
