The
number of midwives working in the UK has hit an all time low according to the
Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC).
According
to NMC annual figures the numbers have fallen from 35,127 to 27,537 in the past
10 years.
The
number of staff working full-time has also fallen from 60 per cent to 35 per
cent.

However,
there are record numbers of midwifery students.
