Minister signals intention over dads’ right to time off

New
fathers could be given six months’ off work to care for their babies, according
to trade and industry secretary Patricia Hewitt.

In
an interview with the Times, Hewitt said the DTI was exploring the move as part
of a shake-up of parents’ rights.

She
told the newspaper that the Government must support fathers who want to spend
more time with their children.

CBI
deputy director general, John Cridland, said any extension of rights would be
premature.
