Surely this cost to employers is something that they can easily avoid by complying with their legal responsibilities (PersonnelToday.com, 14 February)? And what about the cost to workers of being discriminated against and unfairly dismissed?
Contrary to popular belief, there are not thousands of frivolous claims to tribunals each year and in fact the number of claims is declining.
Perhaps employers would be better spending some of that 7,000 per case on getting advice to ensure they are complying with legislation and thereby avoid having to defend a claim.
