Fewer than one in 10 HR professionals believe the public sector has the right image to attract employees, according to a Personnel Today survey.
Of 218 respondents to the Barometer question, 201 (92%) said that the public sector did have an image problem.
Angela O’Connor, chief people officer at the National Policing Improvement Agency, told Personnel Today earlier this month that potential recruits to the sector were put off by its image.
“The public sector still suffers from a bad reputation,” she said. “People don’t recognise that it can offer an incredible range of career opportunities.”
