New union to fight boxers’ corner

A
new union for boxers is to be launched.

The
British Boxers Association will be part of the GMB Union Sports Section and has
appointed Micky Cantwell, the former British flyweight champion and world title
contender, as its full-time director of organisation.

The
union has been started to provide boxers with an independent, progressive and
financially strong association, which can speak and act on behalf of them.

Barry
McGuigan, president of the association, said the union will promote all the
best aspects of the sport.
