The Department of Health and unions have agreed a deal to extend next week’s deadline for NHS Trusts to switch staff to the Agenda for Change pay system.
The DoH, unions and the NHS Employers pay negotiating body said they were optimistic that by the end of September the “significant majority” of staff will have moved onto new conditions.
According to DoH figures, as of the end of August 80% of jobs were matched to the new grades, with about 60% of staff assimilated. This means more than 540,000 individual staff are paid on their new grades.

Those Trusts that miss the September deadline will be required to propose tight timetables to achieve completion of assimilation. The department, NHS Employers and unions will check their performance.
All NHS staff should be on the new system by the end of the year.
