Almost eight in 10 over 65s work because they want to, not because they need to, inverting the work-life balance, research shows.
A survey by Hanover Housing Association shows that while most working people yearn for more free time, many retired people work to give their lives more balance, benefiting from the mental and physical stimulation offered by work.
Nearly four out of five over 65s choose to work during retirement, and three-quarters of those believe they will continue to do so in later life.
