The term human resources is demeaning to working people and sends the wrong signal to staff, according to one of the UK's most experienced personnel directors.
In a scathing attack, Mike Judge, of car firm Peugeot, said employers using the HR title send a message to staff that they are only as important as machines.
"Of course what we do and how we do it is more important than what we call ourselves, but... the trend of calling ourselves the human resources department sends out signals about our profession that I hope are not true," Judge argued.
"I am no dinosaur but I am a personnel director. I do not think we need to invent jargon to describe our responsibilities for people."
