How long?
This programme is designed to fit around candidates’ existing work and home commitments and is offered via Supported Open Learning, starting every two to three months. It can be completed in 24 or 27 months. Learning methods combine self-study with work-based assignments and practical skills development workshops.
Entry requirements
Applicants will need a first degree qualification. Otherwise, applicants with at least two years’ management/supervisory experience and professional qualifications (i.e., a Certificate in Training Practice, a Certificate in Personnel Practice or an NVQ 3 in a management-related area) will be considered.
Modules
These will include: core management (managing activities, managing in a business context, managing people, managing information); specialist electives with a training and development focus (learning and development, managing organisational learning and knowledge, managing the training and development function, management development); people management and the thinking performer; and the management report.
Career opportunities
The course has been developed specifically for training and development professionals and is focused on developing practical skills. It has been approved by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development (CIPD) to meet the requirements of its professional development scheme. Candidates who successfully complete the three fields of study and the management report module can apply for graduate membership of the CIPD.
