Recruitment will continue to be a top priority for HR over the coming year, but specialists are expecting to turn more of their attention to retaining the staff they already have.
The IRS HR Prospects survey of 519 HR practitioners shows that there is growing pessimism that current recruitment difficulties cannot be overcome, with increasing proportions expecting their problems to remain the same or become even worse.
Re-advertising, advertising on the internet and using headhunters or agencies, are the most popular ways of addressing the issue.
In terms of retention, improving communication with staff, providing training and development, and improving the skills of line managers are the main actions being taken by employers.
