Tesco
is recruiting 12,000 extra staff to meet seasonal demand over the Christmas
period.
The
retailer hopes the new roles will appeal to working parents, students and
mature workers, and said the positions include a wide range of flexible working
arrangements.
Tesco’s
retail director David Potts said: “Our stores are getting busier, and over
Christmas and the New Year they’re at their most hectic. These new jobs mean
more hands on deck at the busiest time of the shopping year to help
customers."
Tesco,
the UK’s largest employer, with 227,000 staff across 780 stores, takes on
temporary workers for Christmas every year and many of these eventually become
permanent members of staff.
