Diversity tsar Trevor Phillips’ bid for positive discrimination to be legalised has been dismissed by the CBI. Susan Anderson, director of HR policy, said business did not want the powers. She added: “It may be needed in exceptional circumstances, such as the police or security services, but we would not want it extended to mainstream business.”
Tribunal system overhaul
The government has announced a root-and-branch review of the employment tribunal system. Michael Gibbons will lead a review of the options for simplifying and improving all aspects of dispute resolution, to make the system work better for employers and employees. Gibbons is a member of the DTI’s Ministerial Challenge Panel, and the Better Regulation Commission.
