Unite the union has called on US food giant Kraft to guarantee jobs if it succeeds in its bid to take over UK confectioner Cadbury.
Unite said that it had written to Kraft chief executive Irene Rosenfield about her company’s £10m cash and shares bid.
The union asked for commitments that there would be no compulsory redundancies and that employment terms and pensions would be protected.

In the letter, Unite official Jennie Formby wrote: “Cadbury is a successful, profitable company that provides high quality jobs for over 6,000 employees in the UK and Ireland, and to date nothing has been said by Kraft to allay the concerns that we have about the potential threat to jobs and conditions should a takeover bid be successful.”
The union said that Kraft’s silence over potential job cuts was unacceptable, reports Reuters.
