The University of Lincoln, described by former Equal Opportunities Minister Margaret Hodge MP as ‘an exemplar’ in the field of access and diversity when she visited the Lincoln campus, is further extending its diversity learning programme with Marshall ACM.
It is implementing the e-learning provider’s full suite of online diversity classes, including its Equality Impact Assessment tool, as well as a number of health and safety courses to benefit staff and students.
Claire Bell, Equality & Diversity Manager at the University of Lincoln, explains, “Public sector statutory duties mean universities have to ensure staff complete training in key areas.
The key point for us is to ensure training is provided in the most convenient way for our staff, whether they work full time or for just a few hours a week.
It is important to us that all our staff are provided with quality information and the opportunity to develop their knowledge and skills in a way that suits their needs.
“Marshall ACM’s online courses enable everyone to take modules at a convenient time, and they complement traditional workshop based training we also offer. As is the case with all universities, we have a responsibility to ensure our staff conduct them selves in a professional and respectful manner but for us the importance of duty of care to our staff and students is paramount.”
The customised online courses, usually an hour in length, are available on the staff intranet. Centrally, the University is able to monitor individual completion rates and allocate additional courses as necessary.

David Marshall, MD of Marshall ACM, adds, “The University of Lincoln obviously has a top track record in promoting diversity and equality. Yet, it strives to do more. By commissioning the full suite of online diversity programmes, including the Equality Impact Assessment programme, it will find it easier to meet government legislation. On top of this, they are introducing to staff the additional health and safety training, which will include a comprehensive course on stress management”.
Marshall ACM delivers a managed e-learning service to over 140 organisations across the public and private sector in the UK and Republic of Ireland.
