Communications giant Vodafone has used its UK HR team as a benchmark as it sets a global model for people management.
The model will see the firm’s local HR teams across 25 countries adopting a standardised structure with four key areas: HR services including administrative and process support business partnering centres of expertise and other functions such as health and safety.
Mike Taylor, director of HR transformation and systems at Vodafone, told Personnel Today the common global processes expected to be in place by the end of this year would provide a single source of information regarding the organisation and its people, saving the company money and time. “If we are looking at common approaches and more standardisation we should see cost reductions,” he said.
“The model also enables us to benchmark more accurately against one another, and enables us to free up administrative time to spend more time on strategic issues.”

Taylor said the UK’s HR team, was one of the most effective in the company.
“We’ve leveraged a lot of what we’re doing in the UK to see if we can apply that in other countries,” he said.
