The
chairman of the Better Regulation Task Force has backed the idea of a common
commencement date when all employment legislation for the coming year would be
implemented simultaneously.
David
Arculus, head of the red tape watchdog, said that employers and employees would
be better prepared if they knew all the year’s changes would take place on a
specific date.
The
DTI has launched a consultation document on the feasibility of a common
commencement date, but Arculus said more government backing was needed to move
the plan forward.
"Other
government departments and agencies must follow suit if it is to have any real
impact.
"It
will help rationalise regulation and identify conflicts and unintended
consequences. I very much urge departments to follow the DTI’s lead," he
said.
